Actually, the skeleton in the photo belonged to a baby, present-day African elephant, not to an extinct dwarf or pygmy species. It was put there to give a rough indication of dimensions of adult pygmy elephants. Says so on the plaque.

For the uninformed my initial query to J’Accuse was about this: “Once your name appeared on the electoral register, you were also eligible to contest the election.”

For the uninformed: Sandro had earlier on queried Norman Lowell’s possibilities of overturning his criminal sentence at a higher appeal level – wondering whether it was worth to go on to the Luxembourg or Strasbourg court.

J’accuse had speculated that it would probably be useless. Norman Lowell has not, to our knowledge, referred his case to a European jurisdiction. Norman Lowell still has a two year suspended sentence because to date, all his efforts at getting the criminal sentence against him overturned have been unsuccessful.

IF Normal Lowell contests the election it will be thanks to the new amendments. That means that Sandro Vella will be able to vote for a convicted person to represent him in the European Parliament. I am sure Beppe Grillo will be pleased.

We are not always right. But never wrong.

An Electoral Commission spokesman confirmed that Mr Lowell could stand for the June 6 election and said that the 2007 amendments to the electoral law made it possible for people who were handed down a suspended sentence to be eligible to vote.
Once your name appeared on the electoral register, you were also eligible to contest the election, he added.
